Top 5 Tips to Start Your Raw Food Detox Today

Do you want to wake up every morning feeling energized and excited to start another day? Do you wish you could have more time to do the things you love? Do you want to feel, look and perform your best? If you answered “yes” to at least one of these questions, and you want to regain the energy you lost somewhere along the way: say no more! These top 5 tips will help you to start your raw food detox today.

Tip 1: Love your lemon water

Starting your day with a glass of lukewarm lemon water will alkalize your body, boost your fat-burning metabolism and convert toxins into a water-soluble form that is easier to flush away. It will also nourish your adrenal glands, which is essential if you want to remain high energy levels throughout the day. Add a splash of ginger juice for extra nutrients and you are off to a great start of the day!

Tip 2: Load up on greens

Leafy green vegetables are probably the most potent superfood on the planet. They are very high in chlorophyll, a powerful antioxidant that flushes out heavy metals, pesticides and other toxic residue from your body. Leafy greens are also rich in dietary fiber, which will help you to cleanse your colon. Enjoy your leafy greens as the base of a colorful rainbow salad or detox wrap, blend them into a fruity soup or add them to your favorite juices and smoothies. Green smoothies will satisfy your sugar cravings and re-mineralize your body. They are an excellent way to avoid that dreaded afternoon slump! My favorite leafy greens are kale, spinach and arugula. What are yours?

Tip 3: Enjoy plenty of fresh fruit

Fresh fruit will help you to stay away from processed foods that are loaded with refined sugars, unhealthy fats and toxic additives such as preservatives and artificial colorings. Thanks to their high amount of vitamins and natural sugars, they will keep your energy levels high and satisfy your sweet tooth. Are you still craving desserts, bread, pasta or fatty junk food? These are all signs that you are not eating enough fruit! Are you worried about your blood sugar level? The best way to prevent blood sugar spikes is to combine your fruits with leafy greens. The greens will also help to remove excess sugar from your teeth.

Tip 4: Add steamed veggies

Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and Brussels sprouts can be very hard to digest in their raw state. That’s why I love to steam them! Cruciferous vegetables stimulate specific liver enzymes that will boost your detox. They will also help you to lose weight, because they are low in calories but very high in nutrients and dietary fiber. Make sure you don’t overcook your veggies, but keep crunchy and nutrient rich!

Tip 5: Get your sweat on

There’s more to detox than diet! Regular exercise is a key component in general health and detoxification. After all, we weren’t made to sit on our bottom al day long, were we? Exercise will stimulate your lymphatic system to remove excess toxins and cleanse out your entire system. It will also help you to distribute essential nutrients to every single cell in your body. Are you suffering from detox symptoms such as headaches or mood swings? Get your sweat on! If you’re not so fond of exercise, treat yourself to a day at the spa.
